THE HISTORY OF IRIDOLOGY

Archaeological data indicate that Iridology has been in existence for several thousand years; however, the founder of modern clinical iridology is a Hungarian physician, Ignatz von Peczely (1826-1907).

Von Peczely was working on the surgical ward of a college hospital that afforded him the opportunity to observe the irises of patients after accidents and following surgery. His interest in iris analysis had started years earlier with an incident he had with an owl when he was just 11 years old. From his meticulous research and notes von Peczely created the first iris chart in the early 1800s.

Since von Peczely's first iridology chart, it has become more detailed and complex due to the continued research by interested scientists and iridology practitioners from around the world, with Dr. Bernard Jensen (1908-2001) being at the center of North American iridology research, practice and development.
